I september 2019 hölls den internationella workshoppen Digitization of Carved/Sculptured Stones and Rock Art – Projects and Approaches på Gotlands Fornsal. Sigmund Oehrl, som organiserade workshoppen, blev intervjuad av Gotlands Tidningar där han pratade om projektet och workshoppen: Gotlands Tidningar (1637 Kb)

The aim of the workshop was to bring together different scholars currently dealing with the digital recording and presentation of stone monuments comparable to our material – like carved stones, sculptured stones, stone inscriptions, rock art et cet. We wanted to gather a group of archaeologists and digital experts, presenting their ongoing, planned or completed projects, in order to discuss methods, new approaches, problems, and possible obstacles, to exchange experiences and, as a possible second step, to create a network of specialists in the field of digital research on archaeological stone monuments. The workshop was focusing on Late Iron Age monuments from Northern Europe, as well as prehistoric rock carvings, however, the Ancient World was considered as well.
