The aim of the course is to provide a basic survey of the Scandinavian Viking Age, based on archaeology, literary sources and history of religion. Political, economic, religious and other cultural aspects of the period will be discussed, as well as contemporary conceptions of the Vikings and how those conceptions have been put to use. You will also get a basic and hands-on introduction to Archaeology and to some of the sources and methods we use.
The 2012 course will start on Thursday, 23rd of February, 18.00-20.00. Classes are held up to the 26th of April, including a visit to the Historical museum, and on Saturday the 21st of April a full-day excursion will be made to Viking-Age sites in the countryside.

Requirements:
Grundläggande behörighet. For students with foreign education: completed upper secondary education and English B or equivalent. Exemption is given for Swedish B.
